As part of the Institute for Social Research’s (ISR) 75th Anniversary Showcase, U-M HomeLab presented its latest services, technological advancements, and ongoing projects. As a Michigan Core Research Facility at ISR, HomeLab demonstrated its unique ability to support multidisciplinary research on human behavior in everyday environments—right at the intersection of technology and social science.
Introducing AR/VR Capabilities: A Virtual Tour of HomeLab
One of the highlights of the presentation was the introduction of HomeLab’s new augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) system. Attendees had the opportunity to experience a virtual tour, walking through a 3D model of the HomeLab facility. This innovative system offers exciting new possibilities for experimental design and participant interaction. The virtual reality demonstration underscored HomeLab’s commitment to advancing accessibility and creativity in research methodologies.
Showcasing HomeLab’s Research Services and Technology
In addition to the VR tour, HomeLab showcased its state-of-the-art simulation research facilities and sensor technologies. Attendees were able to explore the tools and capabilities that make HomeLab a valuable resource for researchers across the University of Michigan and beyond. A poster on the MICHR-funded (NCATS UM1TR004404) BRITE Participant Feedback project was also featured, reflecting HomeLab’s dedication to amplifying participant voices at Michigan. This project exemplifies HomeLab’s emphasis on human-centered design and continual innovation in participant engagement.
Looking Ahead
U-M HomeLab’s participation in the ISR 75th showcase highlighted its commitment to pushing the boundaries of research in real-world and simulated environments. As HomeLab continues to evolve and incorporate innovative technologies, it will remain an essential resource for researchers exploring human behavior in both controlled and naturalistic settings.
